The beginning
My story starts way back in 1989, when I was a 15-year-old with no real interest in school or education. So much so, that I decided to bypass my A-Levels, leave school and find a job that would give me the opportunity to finally get my teeth into something that inspired me.
I spent ten years working in various small, independent accountancy firms, but my inner entrepreneur felt stifled. I believed that if I wanted to make a difference, I needed to be somewhere that would allow me to spread my wings and fulfil my potential.
The promotion
When I was offered a position at a leading accountancy firm, I felt like I’d made it.
Here was an opportunity to climb the corporate ladder right up to partnership. However, when I was presented with that opportunity at the age of 30, to everyone’s dismay and surprise, I didn’t want it.
The leap of faith
Determined to follow my gut instinct and do something that fulfilled me, I jumped ship and, in 2004, officially launched Inspire – an independent accountancy firm dedicated to enabling the entrepreneur to succeed.
I started off where most people start off – by myself in a tiny office with a laptop, phone and desk. Yet, with sheer determination and a good dose of entrepreneurial spirit, the business grew rapidly, turning over £150K in year one and £500k in year two.
The success
15 years on, and Inspire is now a multi award-winning professional firm. But it hasn’t been an easy ride by any stretch of the imagination.
The journey has been a huge learning curve, but, as with all learning curves, it’s been so worth it.
The entrepreneurial itch
However, whilst Inspire excels at its role as a tax and business advisory firm, I realised that I have a burning ambition to inspire and support a wider audience of entrepreneurs – to effectively rally together a broader, nationwide network of likeminded individuals, so that they can unite and grow together in a shared, entrepreneurial community.
The evolution
It’s this realisation that has led me to write the book, ‘Evolve to Succeed – The Entrepreneur’s Journey’, and develop the new initiative, Evolve – an exclusive, nationwide membership community of ambitious entrepreneurs and business leaders.
Through Evolve’s eco-system of inspirational events, insights and coaching and development programmes, we want to bring likeminded, innovative individuals together so that they can realise their personal and business ambitions.
